The bridge that was the subject of extraordinary maintenance work is located in the Municipality of Seravezza in the Corvaia area on the Provincial Road no. 9 “di Marina” that leads to the same capital from Forte dei Marmi and connects the two banks of the Versilia torrent in a single span.
From the documentation found at the Civil Engineering office in Lucca, it appears that the structure in question was destroyed during the Second World War and was rebuilt in the following years maintaining the same construction typology and reusing as much of the same original material as possible.
The bridge, of the lower transit type, consists of a load-bearing steel structure composed of two lateral reticular “Warren” type beams approximately 3 m high, each equipped with 7 connecting uprights between the two bridles and 16 wall rods; these beams support a metal deck in the lower part that measures approximately 16 m. 7.40 between the centres of gravity of the bridles whose main structure is made up of 7 metal crosspieces with a double “T” section each joined to the two lateral beams and 4 longitudinal side members also with a double “T” section joined to the crosspieces; to the intrados of the deck are nailed bracing elements made up of “L” steel profiles with a St. Andrew’s cross type assembly every two crosspieces.
The span of the bridge measured between the supports of the ends is approximately 34.00 m for a carriageway width of approximately 5.10 m.
